A car battery charger is a device used on vehicles for the purpose of charging the battery. A car battery charger can be a charging station that is used to recharge the battery packs of electric or hybrid vehicles. A charger can also be used on traditional gasoline powered vehicles where it is used to recharge the battery that is used to power the vehicle’s starter. This is what is called a modular charger.
There is more than one use for a car battery charger. The first reason is the most common, a dead battery. A dead battery will keep a car from being able to start. Some module chargers can give a jump-start to a car battery, allowing the operator to be able to start the car almost instantaneously. Other chargers, while not having the ability to jump-start a car, can still have the capacity to charge a battery enough to allow the vehicle to start within minutes. A car battery charger can also be used in a trickle charge mode. This is used mainly for when a vehicle is in long term storage. It prevents the battery from draining to the point of where it is dead because when a battery loses its charge, it decreases the overall lifespan of the battery.
When purchasing a car battery charger, it is important to consider the desired application, as batteries for different vehicle types require different power levels. A charger used for a car will require more power than one used on a motorcycle battery. Price is also important and generally corresponds with quality. A lower-end model typically can cost $25 while higher quality models can go for well over $100. It all depends on the needs of the buyer.
